Barolo Rocche di Castiglione 2020
Rocche di Castiglione is an exceptionally beautiful geographical indication, defined by a long strip of land overlooking the dramatic “rocche.” The term rocche refers to extremely steep, uncultivable slopes, highly prone to erosion and covered with spontaneous woodland, giving the landscape a wild and striking character.
The vineyard spans the municipalities of Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba and rises above the deciduous forest below like a natural precipice. Its south and south-east exposure ensures excellent sunlight, allowing for slow, complete grape ripening.
The soil is loose, extremely poor, and shallow, with bedrock emerging at the surface. Dry during the summer months, it is rich in calcareous marl and sandstone—features that impart a pronounced mineral character to the wines. To preserve balance and vitality, the soil is periodically restored after harvest with organic manure applications, helping to rebuild structure and improve water retention.
At over 80 years of age, this is one of the oldest vineyards cultivated by the estate and represents an authentic expression of the most elegant and mineral-driven Barolo, shaped by time, experience, and deep respect for the land.
